Foodie in France – Day 4: Beaune

We woke up to a cold and drizzly day this morning in beautiful Beaune, but it’s definitely a nice break from the 100 degrees we’ve been enduring in Texas. Last night was the best nights sleep we’ve had since we got here. The dark stone walls of the hotel made for the perfect place to sleep soundly. Thankfully breakfast was served until noon so we made it just in time for some warm bread and cheese. I’m utterly amazed at how much cheese and bread is consumed in France…and everyone is skinny!! I’m definitely not complaining, cheese and bread in the morning hasn’t gotten old yet!

Today is our wine safari day!! We will be touring the beautiful Burgundy region and tasting some of the most illustrious Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the entire world. Burgundy is especially known for their Chardonnay.

Foodie in France – Day 3: Beaune

Today we are leaving Paris and heading to the Burgundy wine country. I wish we had a full month in France so we could spend more time in Paris. It’s unlike any city I’ve ever been to. The culture, food, and vibe is unlike any other place in the world.

For breakfast we decided to grab a quick bite at the hotel.

The MenuThe Usual
– Baguette
– Cheese
– Scrambled Eggs
– Salami
– Coffee and Juice

The Biggest mistake we made was taking our sweet time at breakfast. We leisurely hopped on the metro, heading to the Paris Gare de Lyon station only to realize we had nine minutes to make our train. Everyone was telling us we wouldn’t make it but 9 minutes later and a full sprint while carrying 50 pound bags…we made the train. Thank you P90X- I can now see the benefits of our 90 days together!

Foodie in France – Day 2: Paris

20111020-000225.jpg

Today was a beautiful day in Paris. No air conditioning or fan to drown out the silence at night meant little sleep and a determined start to the day. We started the morning with breakfast at our hotel.

The Menu

  • An assortment of meats and cheese
  • Croissants & baguettes
  • Cereal
  • Yogurt
  • Scrambled eggs

I decided to stick with the bread, cheese and salami. It was just what I needed to get me through the morning exhaustion.

Foodie in France – Day 1: Paris

20111017-094459.jpg

Our trip has finally begun! For the last three years Matt and I have been planning a dream trip to Europe. Unfortunately we only have two weeks so we decided to limit our travel time and stay in one country. We’ve both spent some significant time in Italy in the past so France it is!! What more could a foodie ask for then a country known for its decadent wine and impeccable cuisine. Let the drinking and feasting begin!

The itinerary:
• Paris
• Beaune – Burgundy Wine Country
• Lyon
• Nice

Our adventure started with an overnight flight direct to Paris. I have to give a shout-out to American Airlines. I haven’t been very pleased lately with the level of service on flights these days and the evening started with our flight being delayed almost two hours. Not only was the food good on the flight, but due to the inconvenience drinks were free the entire flight!! A few glasses of wine and some surprisingly delicious food later…it was time for a movie and an attempt at some sleep.

Perez Hilton Cover Competition – Adele, Someone Like You

Alright here’s a new video for everyone. Perez Hilton is holding another cover competition and this one is for one of my favorite songs off Adele’s sophomore album, 21, Someone Like You. I decided not to change it up too much. The song is just so beautiful on its own. I hope you like it. 🙂

Foster the People – Pumped Up Kicks [Cover] – Sarah Sellers

Alright everyone I just finished a new video and I’m super excited about it. The main reason I’m so excited about it is because I finally figured out how to use my GarageBand and iMovie! Hooray!! I still have a ton to learn but at least I’m on my way. So check it out and let me know what you think. I changed it up a bit to make it my own…I hope you like it.

Ellie Goulding & The Boom Blasters – New Music!

The summer is flying by and I’ve been busy having fun with different types of music and artists. Side note – it is hatch chili season (finally) and I’m definitely due for a food post soon so send me your ideas for hatch recipes so I can get to cooking!

I recently recorded a cover of Guns and Horses from one of my favorite artists, Ellie Goulding. The fabulous Jon C from the band Intake helped me out with his guitar and vocal skills so check it out!

On the opposite end of the music spectrum…I’ve been recording some fun pop tunes with producer and songwriter, Ben C Jones. I love writing and playing my own music, but every once in a while it’s fun to step outside the norm and have a little fun. Sometimes I feel like music is taken a little too seriously, so with that, here is a sample of my electro-pop side (any takers on some alter-ego pop names…let me know). 🙂

Help the States – BamaJam 2011 [Charity Event]

Brought to you by The Hartman House!

The Hartman House:

Hartman House is a certified 501(c)3 non profit organization founded in 2005 by Butch and Julieann Hartman of West Hills, California. Hartman House was started because the Hartman family wanted to make a difference in the world. The Hartman’s goal is a simple one: to provide financial and spiritual support to people and organizations across the world who are in need of assistance.

This wonderful organization asked me to participate in Help the States: BamaJam 2011. A charity event created to raise $10,000 for care packages to family’s who have been affected by the tornadoes in the south. The emergency packages will include: Gift cards, toilet paper, all toiletries, flashlights, batteries, crayons, coloring books, power bars, granola bars, pedialyte, crystal light, gatorade, baby bottles, pacifiers, and small tarps for shelter.

The Hartman House has asked some amazing YouTube artists to join together and create a viral, charity event to help reach their $10k goal and beyond. So please help me out by viewing my video, sharing, tweeting, Facebooking, and most importantly, making a donation! Every little bit counts!!!

iPod on Repeat…My Top 5 Artists

As always, things have been crazy and my absentee food posts only means one thing…I have been 100% entrenched in my music. From writing, to covering, to listening, there are so many good things going on right now. I only wish I could clone my foodie self because I’ve been seriously neglecting my culinary needs.

So in my music haze I’ve been listening to a lot of music and here are a few of my current favorites.

Who are you listening to? Give me some suggestions…I love being introduced to new artists (old or new)!!!

Quick & Easy Snacking – American Idol Recap

And just like that…it’s come and gone, another year of American Idol. Around this time last year I was anxiously awaiting the audition announcement so I could take my 5th and final stab at Idol glory! Well, needless to say I didn’t make it to the big stage, but I did get an awesome opportunity to share my love of food with Lyndsey Parker and her Yahoo! blog, Reality Rocks.

This is definitely old news by now, but Mr. Country himself, Scotty McCreery, took home the 10th season Idol crown. I’m not the biggest fan of country music, but Scotty showed a poise and charm that is rarely seen in kids his age. So I think his win was a deserving one for sure.

Scotty was actually in my line in Hollywood and I remember being completely taken back by his rich, mature voice and instant command of the stage. Country fan or not, you can’t deny that he grew from week to week and that’s what I like to see most in an Idol competitor. So congrats Scotty McCreery, you deserved it!

Side note: did anyone else see the love fest happening between Scotty and Lauren? Between the handing holding, waist grabbing, “I love you baby”, and multiple pecks on the mouth and cheeks…it’s pretty hard to deny there’s something there. Sooo cute! 🙂

If you didn’t get a chance to check out all of my recipes over the last few months then here you are, a list of everything I was serving up for American Idol Season 10!

Which recipe was your favorite? Which one was your least favorite?

Happy Eating!
