Song of the Day: Ellie Goulding “Hanging On”

It’s crazy to think it was just two years ago when I first wrote about British songstress Ellie Goulding. Ever since then I’ve been completely captivated by her unique vocals and refreshing sound. Lights is just now making the radio circuit in the US, two years after it’s release, but Ellie is already on to new music and a new album.

Ellie’s follow-up to her critically acclaimed debut is definitely heading in a new direction with her cover of Active Child’s track, Hanging On. “Here’s the beginning of my new journey. Enjoy and share responsibly,” Ellie wrote on her Facebook account Tuesday.

At first I wasn’t 100% sold on Tinie Tempah’s rhyme on the track but I’m loving Ellie’s pain stricken vibe throughout the entire song.  Love it, love Ellie, and I’m definitely ready for some new music!! Keep it coming!

Check it out and let me know what you think in the comments field below.

Ellie Goulding & The Boom Blasters – New Music!

The summer is flying by and I’ve been busy having fun with different types of music and artists. Side note – it is hatch chili season (finally) and I’m definitely due for a food post soon so send me your ideas for hatch recipes so I can get to cooking!

I recently recorded a cover of Guns and Horses from one of my favorite artists, Ellie Goulding. The fabulous Jon C from the band Intake helped me out with his guitar and vocal skills so check it out!

On the opposite end of the music spectrum…I’ve been recording some fun pop tunes with producer and songwriter, Ben C Jones. I love writing and playing my own music, but every once in a while it’s fun to step outside the norm and have a little fun. Sometimes I feel like music is taken a little too seriously, so with that, here is a sample of my electro-pop side (any takers on some alter-ego pop names…let me know). 🙂

iPod on Repeat…My Top 5 Artists

As always, things have been crazy and my absentee food posts only means one thing…I have been 100% entrenched in my music. From writing, to covering, to listening, there are so many good things going on right now. I only wish I could clone my foodie self because I’ve been seriously neglecting my culinary needs.

So in my music haze I’ve been listening to a lot of music and here are a few of my current favorites.

Who are you listening to? Give me some suggestions…I love being introduced to new artists (old or new)!!!

Quick & Easy Snacking – American Idol Top 8

We’re inching closer and closer to the American Idol finale next month and from now on we’ll be seeing some major talent going home each week. Last week’s Idol Top 8 performed songs inspired by the movies and Paul McDonald, unfortunately, did not impress with his rendition of “Old Time Rock ‘n Roll” from the film Risky Business.

Paul’s quirky dance moves and pearly white smile will be missed, but something tells me we’ll be seeing him around the Hollywood scene sooner then later (or possibly walking the next Twilight premier).

Quick & Easy Snacking – American Idol Top 12

Last week came and went in a flash with another person sent packing during American Idol’s Top 12 week. The gorgeous and talented, Karen Rodriguez, couldn’t quite bring in the votes with her version of Taylor Dayne’s “Love Will Lead You Back”. Her time may be up on Idol, but I have a feeling we’ll be hearing more from Miss Rodriguez. **Side Note: girl was looking fierce in that black sparkly dress and sky high boots.

Whether you were dabbing your tears or jumping for joy over Karen’s departure, I hope you had the chance to enjoy my Idol top 12 recipes. Yahoo’s super fab music lover and creator of the popular “Reality Rocks” blog, Lyndsey Parker, posted some more quick and easy snacking recipes from yours truly.

Hatch Chile Recipes

Hatch season is winding down and I have a few more recipes I wanted to share with you guys. I got another email from Central Market today announcing the arrival of red Hatch Chiles…so, I will probably have a few more evenings of experimentation before the season ends.

The first recipe I adapted from the leftovers of my Hatch Chile Beer Can Chicken dinner, but no worries, you can make the leftover ingredients in no time at all.

Happy Eating! Continue reading
