New Video, West Coast Dreams & Promising Opportunities!

I’m writing you from 37,856 feet on my way to the City of Angels for a fun week of gorgeous weather and networking opportunities. First things first, for the first time in years I’m actually enjoying my flight thanks to Virgin America. I’ve never flown the airline before and now I’m officially spoiled. If you get the chance, book a seat, the experience is better then any carrier I’ve ever flown on. Moving on….

Last week I posted a new video of my partner in crime, Josh Goode, and me covering ZZ Ward’s “Got it Bad”. Since she’s been a huge inspiration on the new material we decided to record another cover of her latest single, “Put the Gun Down”. So here you are, another YouTube video to tide you guys over until the new material is released. If you live in Dallas and want to check out the new music first come to the House of Blues on September 29th! I’ll be opening for Monica with Josh Goode and some other amazing musicians.

It’s been a few years since I’ve been to LA and I couldn’t be more excited. Tonight Matt and I are kicking things off with a party hosted by Yahoo! featuring one of my favorite bands, Chairlift. I won’t be reviewing the show but I’ll definitely be documenting the night’s events. Maybe I’ll even get a chance to meet Caroline Polacheck…wishful thinking.

The rest of the week I have a few meetings with some new contacts and old friends. It’s amazing what the universe delivers to you once you stop holding back and put yourself out there. Never stop dreaming!

Chairlift Takes on the Big D with Special Guest Nite Jewel [Review]

I’m excited to announce I’ll be partnering with GoodBAMMSho to bring you reviews of the hottest Indie bands coming through the DFW Metroplex. I couldn’t have asked for a better show to kick off the collaboration then Chairlift with opening act Nite Jewel.

Lying in the shadows of the “live music capital of the world”, otherwise known as Austin, Dallas hasn’t been considered much of a music Mecca. But don’t make your judgments yet because this southern city in the heart of Texas has a lot of talent to offer.

Indie music is making a huge splash on the scene in venues like the Granada Theater, Palladium Ballroom and of course, Club Dada.

It’s been years since I’ve been to Club Dada let alone Deep Ellum and I was a little disappointed to see how desolate the area has become. The happening music scene of my youth has turned into a condo wasteland littered with a few nightclubs and readily available retail space. Thankfully there are still some good bands coming through the east side Dallas hangout, and Monday night was no exception with Nite Jewel and Chairlift on the bill.

Song of the Day: Chairlift “Sidewalk Safari”

Last weekend I fell in love with Chairlift. Prior to my trip to Austin for SXSW my knowledge of the band rest solely in one single, Sidewalk Safari. When Matt and I were making our list of bands to see there were two choices for Friday afternoon, wait in line for the Rhapsody Rocks party where Gauntlet Hair, Zola Jesus, and Washed Out were playing, or the Spin Party to see Santigold, Best Coast and Chairlift. Since we didn’t get passes to the Spin party Rhapsody rocks it was.

While filming The Day After with Yahoo! Music reality blogstress (yes I just made that up), Lyndsey Parker, we started chatting about the full day of music ahead. Long story short….I guess it was the Austin air or the fact that it was my birthday, regardless, she hooked us up with two passes to the Spin show!!!! So in between the amazingness of Gauntlet Hair and Zola Jesus we rushed over to check out Chairlift.

Let me just say…I was completely hypnotized by lead singer Caroline Polachek. She oozed this mysterious calm and coolness with her quirky dance moves and vocals that seemed to cover the crowd like a blanket. I instantly downloaded their latest album and haven’t stopped listening to it since.

On a side note…we totally missed Santigold, le sigh, but I saw her a few years back and if you get the opportunity you must see her live. AMAZING!

TGIF and Happy Listening!
