Song of the Day: Clams Casino “I’m God”

Happy Friday!!! I’m especially excited about this weekend. My little brother is turning 5 on Saturday so I get to spend my day eating pizza and playing games with a bunch of little rugrats at Chuck E Cheese. You think I’m being sarcastic but my inner child will definitely be coming out on Saturday.

Today’s song of the day is not new but it’s been on rotation all morning and I had to share it with you guys. I LOVE how New Jersey beat master Clams Casino, aka Mike Volpe, manipulates the female voice. The beats sampled with Imogen Heap’s vocals on this track is absolutely delicious.

The pronounced lover of hip-hop has worked with different artists ranging from Soulja Boy to Adele. I had to do a little digging to find the track and stumbled across a wide and interesting range of collaborations. He barely  has any music on iTunes (yes I still buy my music) but it’s worth doing some digging online to find his stuff.

Side note, and I’m sure I’m not the first person to make this  comparison, does Caroline Polachek from Chairlift not sound EXACTLY like Imogen Heap?

Happy Listening!

I’m God:

Song of the Day: Wild Belle “Keep You”

I love discovering new music. That feeling of stumbling across something fresh and unique, worlds a part from all of the crap being played on the radio right now. Side note: who’s finally installing Sirius in her car today, this girl!!!!

Matt introduced me to this band last week and Keep You has been on rotation every day since. The Chicago-based sibling duo hasn’t been on the scene very long. In fact, they aren’t even signed yet. With two singles released they’re already stirring up the blogosphere as well as concertgoers at last month’s SXSW festival. And yes of course, we didn’t know they were playing…FAIL!

If the psychedelic, reggae sound of Keep You is any indication of whats to come on their debut LP, I’m stoked! Natalie’s tone and vocal transitions  glide over the hodgepodge of beats, including Elliot’s infectious use of the Sax. Now this is how the instrument should be played (take note Gaga and Katy Perry). I’m not hating on the Saxophone, okay maybe a little, I’m just not feeling the corny resurgence we’ve heard in recent pop music.

Enough babbling, you’ve got to check out this tune!

Keep You:

Erykah Badu – New Amerykah Pt. 2

As a fellow Dallasite I’ve definitely heard an ear full of Erykah Badu since the release of her “Window Seat” video last month. The news has been full of likes and dislikes for Ms. Badu’s controversial video shoot.

If you aren’t aware of her most recent escapade, she did a gorilla style shoot for her latest single by walking the streets of downtown Dallas, slowly stripping down to her birthday suit. Once she reached the famed Dealey Plaza she was completely in the buff and “shot” to the ground in front of quite a few bystanders. In the conservative world of the south this translated into two major outcries. First, she got naked in front of a crowd of people that included some small children, and second, she portrayed herself being shot in the same spot JFK’s life was ended. Everyone has heard plenty of opinions on this, so I’ll get down to my own personal opinion on what really matters…the phenomenal piece of music that is New Amerykah Pt. 2.

My Favorite Spot for Sunday Brunch

Sundays are one of my favorite days of the week for two main reasons, sleeping in and late morning brunch. I usually make it at home but lately Matt and I have been on a mission to find the best brunch in Dallas. Ok, so we only tried out two restaurants, but I’ve tried many breakfast places in the past and I feel very confident in my new found favorite.

A few weeks back we were eating at one of our favorite Mexican spots, Cyclone Anaya’s, when we saw their advertisement for Sunday brunch (their Lobster Enchiladas are AMAZING by the way). A few Sundays later we were back again. We ordered the bottomless mimosas ( around 12 bucks a person if I’m remembering correctly) the Crabmeat Omelet, and their amazing queso.  With all of the chips we usually eat we decided to split the omelet and save room for more mimosas. Adventures in Shell Fish: Lobster Tails & Crab Claws

Tonight’s Inspiration: Weekend special at Central Market – Lobster Tails $4.99 a piece (4oz); Snow Crab Clusters $4.99 a pound

Tonight’s Mission: Don’t overcook the Lobster!

Last Friday I was going about my everyday work routine when a lovely little email popped into my mail box – Central Market was having a weekend only special on seafood. But not just any seafood, Lobster and Crab! I am a lover of shell fish, but most of all, I am a lover of Lobster, especially Lobster tail. Unfortunately, I don’t usually cook, well I’ve never cooked, with said ingredient because of the expensive price tag. So when I saw the golden opportunity to try my hand at one of my favorite foods…I jumped.

The Menu:

  • Four 4 oz Lobster Tails, Steamed
  • Two Crab clusters, Pre-Cooked
  • Boiled New Potatoes & Green Beans
  • Sourdough Baguette with Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar
  • Delicious White Wine

When I started to prep everything I have to admit, I was pretty nervous. This was my first chance to really show off to my hubby in the kitchen, and make him his FAVORITE food for the first time. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing. The first question was, how do I cook it? After conversing with Matt we decided that the potential for failure was greater with the grill, I would probably most definitely overcook it in the oven, and boiling just didn’t seem that sexy. So the verdict was STEAMING. Second question, these lovely little creatures look so nice and snug in their shells. Do I just drop them in to the steam basic as is, or do I have to cut into something? I have one very trusty friend that I turn to in times of need in the kitchen…Google.
