One of the best things about being such a huge music fan is hearing about great new tunes from other music lovers, and showcasing what I’m listening to at the moment.
Here’s a little insight into what fuels me the most…music! Feel free to let me know what you’re currently in to. I love hearing about new artists!

I am a HUGE Interpol fan!!!! Ever since the first time I heard “Untitled” (on Vinyl) I was completely sucked in. Their distinct musicianship laced with Paul Bank’s ultra unique vocals has been a match made in heaven. This week they released their 4th, self-titled, studio album! So far so good…Interpol always delivers a new spin on every album while holding on to that “Interpol” sound. Check out my favorite song of the new album, “Safe Without” (“Try it On” a close second).

I’ve been in total musical exploration mode lately and have really felt a need to discover who I am as an artist. So, while listening to a bunch of tunes this week I’ve pinpointed some tracks that have really spoke to me, musically. Most will probably not be new to anyone…but they’ve taken me to that perfect place for the mood I’ve been in. The exploration is definitely in full swing…
Lykke Li – Breaking it Up
Yeah Yeah Yeah’s - Runaway
Solange – Under Construction (Original Tune by Thievery Corporation)
Lykke Li - Little Bit

In anticipation of her upcoming release, Bionic, on June 8, I thought I would post two amazing performances from one of my all time favorite Vocalist, Christina Aguilera. I can say with 100 percent confidence that she is the best vocalist of this generation and she keeps finding new ways to reinvent herself.
When Christina first came on the scene with Genie in a Bottle she impressed me with a fun, young pop record, but most of all her POWERFUL vocals. Not only did she completely turn a 180 with Stripped, but it’s hands down one of my favorite pop records to this day. She’s gone from bubble gum pop to sultry and soulful on Back to Basics and now back to electro pop diva on Bionic. I’ve only heard 4 tracks off the new album and I can’t wait to here the rest. She’s provocative, confident, and can pretty much sing anybody under the table who’s making pop records today. So here are two amazing performances of ”You Lost Me” and “Lift Me Up” from her fourth major studio release, Bionic.

Last Friday I performed with the Septien Entertainment Group at their 2010 Commercial Showcase at the Palace Theatre in Grapevine, TX. I’ve been taking lessons from Septien for a little over a month now and am really enjoying it. Check out the clip of my performance singing “Nobody Knows” by Pink. I also posted a full version of me singing in my living room (don’t mind the bad mix)!!

Old School Gaga!!!
I love this video…I’ve probably watched it a half a dozen times and I never get sick of it. She’s completely brilliant, unafraid, original, and unapologetic.
This is how you promote a debut album! “Pop music will never be low brow!”

New Beyonce!
Absolutely loving this new video! There’s rarely anything Beyonce does that I don’t love. She just keeps getting more and more fierce…love it! Check it out…”Why Don’t you Love Me?”

Check out the new SugarCrush video BenC and I made last month. Well, more like BenC made and I was in.
We had TONS of fun with friends, just goofing off with the camera…and I must say, BenC is quite the videographer!!

I am a HUGE Santigold fan and last summer I had the pleasure of seeing her live at the House of Blues. Unfortunately, I missed the first opening act, her boyfriend Trouble Andrew, but I did get to see the second act, Amanda Blank. The first thing I thought was…hummm okay white girl rapper/singer….then, damn that girl has some moves. Her show was full of energy, but I guess I was so overly excited to see Santigold that I didn’t give her enough credit. It took me a while but I finally purchased “I Love You”. Blank’s first full length album. This Philly singer is unique, fun, & I can’t get enough of her catchy hooks. Much like Ms. Santi herself there’s a mix of hip-hop, electro, club rock feel to the tracks. If a female new wave, indie rocker had a hip-hop love child it would produce Amanda Blank. Enjoy…b/c it makes me want to move!!!

Release of the Week!
One of my favorite artist, Erykah Badu, released her 6th studio album this week, New Amerykah Part Two (Return of the Ankh), and needless to say, it’s chalk full of classic Badu rhythm and soul.
For us living in the Dallas area it’s been hard to miss all of the negative press Erykah Badu’s been receiving due to her controversial video for her single, “Window Seat”. If you have yet to see it, she is seen walking through Dealey Plaza while slowly stripping down to her birthday suit. Once she is fully nude she is shot to the ground with blue “blood” oozing out of her head that reads “GroupThink”. Ms. Badu didn’t get a permit to shoot the video and has upset some parents that had their children present during the time of the video shoot. So check it out and see if you think it lives up to all the controversial hype.
Getting back to the music, New Amerykah Part Two is the lighter, more melodic counterpart to 2008′s New Amerykah Part One (4th World War). The album, from start to finish, brings a stream of soul infused funk to songs like Turn Me Away (Get Munny); Gone Baby, Don’t be Long; and Jump Up in the Air and Stay There featuring Lil Weezy! This Dallas native continues to do her thing and I’m just happy to get some new Badu back into my headphones! Peace and Light!
Check out the video for “Window Seat”

Jay-Z is one of my all time favorite hip hop artists. With so much crap rap on the radio right now Jay-Z has remained relevant without sacrificing the old school sound that has catapulted him to where he is today. The Blueprint 3 is one of my favorite albums of the year. The music is fresh with that perfect blend of old and new school beats. The collaborations on the record add another layer that makes it that much more fun to listen to. My favorite collaboration is Jay-Z and Drake on the track “Off That”. Drake is another one of my favs right now; it’s hard to not like him, he is EVERYWHERE! So kick off your Friday with with a little Drake and Hova!
MyTunes! March 15, 2010
I just heard the song “Wide Eyes” off of Local Natives’ debut album Gorilla Manor, and I am loving it!! From the whimsical guitar riff to the infectious drum rolls and perfectly blended vocals, this is why I love Indie Music! Give it a listen…it does not disappoint.
MyTunes! March 6, 2010
Another great, new artist from across the pond, Ellie Goulding! I love this chicks voice…it’s very etherial with a hint of folk, and all of her songs have this great electronic, mellow vibe. Her album isn’t available in the States yet so I will be enjoying her tunes via YouTube! Loving it!
MyTunes! March 3, 2010
I was just introduced to London’s very own Paloma Faith. Although I see the direct comparison to Amy Winehouse, don’t get her confused just yet. Her voice and style is uniquely her own, and very refreshing.
The smokey sounds of today’s leading ladies, i.e. Adele, Duffy, Amy Winehouse, have set a trend in the music industry that has brought on a slew of throwback wannabes. Paloma’s debut album “Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful” is a pleasure to the ears from start to finish. Her vocals float perfectly above the music with an angelic yet powerful tone.
I’ve seen her perform a few times via youtube and her stage performance places her out in front of the aforementioned leading ladies. Her vibrance is compelling and I can’t wait until she crosses over to our side of the pond!

Happy Friday!!!
I love Fridays! It’s the weekend, time to relax, have some fun, and take a break from the daily grind. In the spirit of living for the weekend I thought I would post a fun tune to put you in that party mood!
I love Rihanna, she is fresh, unique, and puts out some pretty catchy stuff. It took me a bit longer to warm up to Rated R but I’m really loving it now. It’s definitely a different direction from Good Girl Gone Bad, and definitely from her early albums, but it shows her growth and fearlessness as an artist. I like seeing her come into her own.
Enjoy!

I’m feeling nostalgic today. I’m not sure if it’s the teenagers bringing back the 80s that I saw today, or just feeling like I need a trip down memory lane. There’s nothing better than popping in some old tunes or just stumbling across an old favorite on the radio. Here are a few tracks that take me back. Enjoy!

TGIF! I am in a total Friday party mood so what better person to listen to but new artist Ke$ha! When I first heard her catchy single Tik Tok I didn’t want to admit how much I loved it. Her music isn’t deep and it isn’t a brilliant piece of art but damn it’s fun! Music is such an amazing thing because you can find something to accommodate any mood you might be in. Ke$ha’s debut release, Animal, is nothing but pure pop goodness that just makes you want to go out and party!
Happy Friday!!

I just downloaded the new Alicia Keys album, The Element of Freedom, and it is every bit as good as I hoped it would be and more. Alicia Keys is by far my biggest musical influence and I have loved her music since Songs in A Minor was released in 2001. I can really feel her evolving on this record. Her vocals are fresh and showcase different tones that I haven’t heard from her before. Every track is exceptional and I am loving watching Ms. Keys evolve as an artist. Here are two of my favorite tracks off the new album! It is a must buy for sure!!

I was reading my daily dose of gossip on Perez Hilton when I discovered this new artist. Her name is Selah Sue and she’s from Leuven, Belgium. Her voice is so unbelievably unique and refreshing. I immediately checked out her Myspace page and listened to all of her music. She doesn’t have a full link album released yet, but if the EP is any indication of what the album will be I’m very excited! Check it out!

Yesterday I downloaded Lady Gaga’s new album/re-release “The Fame Monster” off of iTunes and I must say, it is fabulous! I guess you could say Gaga has become somewhat of an obsession of mine lately. I love her music, her style, her weirdness, and the way she owns all of it. You never know what she’s going to wear or do next.
I’m a lover of pop music so this satisfies my musical taste buds every time I listen. I was a bit surprised when I heard she was just simply re-releasing her debut album, “The Fame”. I hate it when artists do that, especially after you’ve spent the 13 or so dollars on it. Gaga realized she was essentially putting our her second album due to the additional 9 tracks, so she decided to release a separate album for only 8 dollars. You’ve gotta love that! So, you must download it! If you don’t have her debut album yet then go ahead and buy the deluxe edition of The Fame Monster with both combined. If you love pop music then you will not be disappointed.

I recently purchased two new albums; both completely different musically. “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix” by the band Phoenix and “All I Ever Wanted” by Kelly Clarkson. I love love both albums! They fuel my rock and pop cravings! I highly recommend!

I have to recommend a track called “Walkabout” by the band Atlas Sound. One of the masterminds behind Animal Collective (Noah Lowry) sings on the track and it’s awesome.
Also, I am not a Michael McDonald fan by any means, but his collaboration w/ Grizzly Bear on the “While You Wait For The Others” track is really cool too.
Here’s a challange for you. See if you can find–Sil Austin Plays Pretty for the People. Old, old lp…one of the greatest sax players of all times. I’ve not been able to find it, but maybe w/you being in Dallas, ……. Let me know if you do. Tell your Mom hello for me.
Old news: bought U2 album in anticipation of last week’s show. Surprisingly strong effort. Several songs are excellent.
New news: really like the new Silversun Pickups song “Panic Switch”

Good Friday morning! I love the choices for this week – my favs are Runaway and Under Construction – very cool. Have a beautiful Friday and keep the music in your heart! xoxox
Yeah I just found Solange’s song when I stumbled upon her blog – very cool. I’ve always loved Thievery Corporation and her vocals are so cool over it.
